La Commission Grand Prix, composée de Messieurs Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, Président), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) et Biense Bierma (MSMA) s’est réunie lors d’une visioconférence organisée le 23 décembre, en présence de Jorge Viegas (FIM, Président), Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Webb (IRTA, Secrétaire de la réunion), Corrado Cecchinelli (Directeur Technologies) et Dominique Hebrard (Technical Manager, FIM CTI).
La récente introduction d’un âge minimum en catégorie Moto3 a interrompu la trajectoire espérée pour certains pilotes, qui ont débuté leur carrière avant que cette limite ne soit augmentée, rendant impossible leur arrivée en Grands Prix comme prévue.
Les exceptions existantes seront donc étendues afin de permettre aux trois premiers du Championnat du Monde FIM JuniorGP et de la Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup de concourir en Moto3 à partir du moment où ils sont mathématiquement assurés d’une place au sein du Top 3 dans une de ces catégories, même s’ils n’atteignent pas l’âge minimum fixé à 18 ans. Néanmoins, ils devront avoir au minimum 17 ans.
Une exemption est par ailleurs accordée au vainqueur du Championnat d’Europe FIM Moto2 pour participer à la saison 2024 du Championnat du Monde Moto2, même s’il n’a pas 18 ans. Cela dit, ce dernier devra être âgé au minimum de 17 ans, là encore.
En 2022, une exception avait également été faites pour les pilotes ayant participé aux précédentes campagnes de Moto3 et Moto2 à 16 ans et 17 ans. Et cette dérogation se prolongera en 2024.
